Yakima and Kittitas Family Ombudsman
The Washington State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, as mandated by the Federal Olders Americans Act, is intended to improve the quality of life for people who live in licensed long-term care facilities, that include nursing homes, boarding homes, adult family homes and veteran’s homes.
Residents in long-term care facilities are guaranteed certain rights by federal and state laws and regulations.
The purpose of the program is to protect and promote the rights of residents and assist in empowering residents to become self-advocates.
Northwest Community Action Center assumed the Regional Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program for Kittitas and Yakima Counties. NCAC is responsible to:
- Establish Advisory Council between nine and eleven members to provide guidance and assist with the regional action plan; assist with recruiting volunteers.
- Recruit volunteers and coordinate the initial 30-hour training for new trainees.
- Provide in-service training as necessary for annual re-certification.
- Receive, carry out fact-finding, and resolve complaints and concerns.
Act as a mediator in disputes between residents.
“Because dignity and quality of life are a right, not a privilege”
