Safe Haven Community Center offers a variety of Adult Education during the day. These offeringsare possible because of grants, partnerships, and volunteers. The center is currently offering the following adult education programs.

Program Information

Seniors-on-the-Go

Senior Citizens across the Yakima Valley gather weekly for a variety of activities. Monthly activities include an outing to visit various sites throughout the Yakima Valley, presentations by guest speakers, a potluck, and bingo. Activities are subject to change andare scheduled by the senior citizens.

Eligibility: All seniors are welcome
Fees: No Fee

English as a Second Language classes

Safe Haven Community Center provides 8-week sessions of English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. The classes are open to the public and free of charge. Classes are Monday through Thursday: A beginners’ class is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and an intermediate class is from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. All students must take an assessment to determine the level of English.

Eligibility: Placement assessment to determine level of English.
Fees: No Fee

Citizenship Classes

In partnership with La Casa Hogar, Safe Haven offers classes for permanent legal US residents to become US Citizens. Classes meet twice weekly from 5:30pm to 7:00pm for 8 weeks. Persons interested must be a legal permanent US resident. See eligibility requirements.

Eligibility: 5 year Legal Permanent US resident or 3 year Legal permanent US resident who is married to a US Citizen.
Fees: $30 Registration Fee

Town Halls

Once a month community members are invited to listen to special guest speakers on topics, such as “How to Avoid the Emergency Room,” “How to Respond to Natural Disasters,” “Human Trafficking”, “Youth Suicide Prevention”, and more. Safe Haven provides light snacks and refreshments, along with activities for youth during the presentation. This allows parents to engage in the topic free from distractions.
